| Short description: | One of the branches of of plant protection is a plant pathology - science of plant diseases. In this course, the student will obtain the knowledge: about the influence of biotic and abiotic environmental factors on plants; mechanisms of control plant health; relationships between the plant and the pathogens: methods of disease prevention. Students will learn about the diseases caused by abiotic and biotic factors: viruses, bacteria, protists, chromists, fungi, nematodes and parasitic higher plants. |
| Full description: | Symptoms of plant diseases. Distribution of pathogens. Diseases caused by abiotic factors. Classification biotic detailed overview of viruses, bacteria, fungi and fungilike organisms (protists, chromists) and diseases caused by these organisms. Pathogenesis, mechanisms of infection. Symptoms of the disease. Plant immune response. Epidemiology. Diagnostics. Research methods. Methods of prevention. |

| Learning outcomes: | Knowledge The student knows the basic factors of diseases occurring species of horticultural plants. They know how to recognize the diseases and to prevent them. Indicates the methods of protection of horticultural plants against diseases as well as methods to reduce the population of pathogenic organisms Determines the influence of pathogens on quality and quantity of yield.
